A few helpful tips on how to stay focused, alert and maintain mental clarity in a meeting room.
We all know that feeling, that oh so tempting feeling to reach for another coffee to perk ourselves up when sat in a meeting room or at the start of a busy event, but wait, did you know it’s better to drink water? The NHS recommend drinking between 6-8 glasses of water a day and more in hot weather, starting first thing in the morning and continuing throughout the day
Not only will drinking water improve your concentration and alertness, but it will also help you stay focused during meetings, as dehydration can lead to fatigue, low energy and tiredness which will hamper the information we retain. It is crucial to stay hydrated as it supports optimal brain function and who doesn’t need that!
Additionally, sipping water can be a subtle and non-disruptive way to take short breaks during a meeting, helping you stay refreshed and engaged. You can’t argue with the science, studies show that hydration supports cognitive functions like attention, memory, and concentration by ensuring proper electrical communication between brain cells. Around 60% of the human body is made up of water, that’s why dehydration can go easily undetected, we don’t realise we are dehydrated until we already are.
Dehydration can lead to fatigue and difficulty focusing on the information you’re trying to process, again emphasizing the importance of staying hydrated for mental clarity.
