Peggy Nuttall (1917-2008)

Peggy Nuttall received an OBE for her services to nursing and a Fellowship of the RCN. Evacuation to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary during the Second World War sparked Nuttall’s decision to train as a nurse. After working as senior night sister at St Thomas’ Hospital, London, Nuttall became clinical editor at the Nursing Times, and was shortly after promoted to editor. Nuttall instigated significant changes during her time as editor, including publishing articles by nurses, instead of only those by doctors, and encouraging research. Nursing Times’ circulation had more than doubled by the time of her retirement.
